CSL 2018-2019 Staff Applications Open

Staff Writer

Duties: Keep track of ongoing CSL tournaments and write relevant articles covering their scope. Create connections within the community by contacting teams and coordinators for content. Occasionally write for video content and broad collegiate esports articles.

Skills: Strong writing skills and ability to adhere to deadlines. Knowledge of one or more of CSL’s supported game titles. Active players and community members preferred.

Scope: Will work with Content Manager, assistant editors, and other writers to brainstorm and produce content throughout the season. Will work with other departments to ensure the season’s storyline is consistent and covered thoroughly. Will be assigned to specific beats.

Additional qualifications: Experience/interest in writing for video content a plus. Past track record of writing about esports a bigger plus. Active social media presence is helpful. Knowledge of multiple games is also a big plus.

Compensation: Paid contract position.

Specific Positions available: League of Legends, Blizzard Games (SC, OW, HS), Madden, Smash, Rocket League


Production Editor

Duties: Visual design for CSL articles. You're the one responsible for making our pieces stand out visually

Skills: Strong design sense needed. Front-end design ability (HTML/CSS) also required. 

Scope: Will work with Content Manager and Assistant Editor to determine visual styles and presentations best for each medium (social, web, video), and implement that vision through taking written work and preparing/editing them to be published.

Additional qualifications: Graphic design ability is a plus, any video editing skills also a plus.

Compensation: Paid contract position.


Community Coordinator

Duties: The community coordinator is the main point of contact between a particular game and CSL. You’ll be a friendly face that gets to know coordinators and players alike. If players have questions, problems, or issues, you’ll be the first person they turn to for help. You'll be required to maintain an active Discord presence and potentially attend live events as well. You will be required to manage your game’s social media accounts from time to time as well.

Important: The community coordinator must commit to being available for the full duration of their game’s broadcasts about twice a week for two hours per broadcast. If you don’t have a flexible schedule that allows you to commit to being present online for nightly broadcasts, then this job isn’t for you.

Skills: We are looking for individuals who have a strong presence and knowledge of their game's community, and who are familiar with the scene, its demographic, and its major contributors. We want creative individuals. We want strong and savvy communicators. You should be able to work as part of a team, but also know how to self-motivate and work independently. Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.

Scope: Works with Community Manager to strategize and execute community initiatives and daily social media content. Interacts with content department to provide story leads from the community. Interacts with tournament admin to provide accurate and timely support. Interacts with production department to thoroughly promote broadcasts.

Additional qualifications: Familiarity with pro players and personalities is a plus. Pre-existing familiarity with collegiate teams and players is also a plus.

Compensation: Paid contract position.

Specific Positions available: Fortnite



Duties: Cast matches on a weekly basis. Follow the league thoroughly and get to know the teams/players competing.

Gear Requirement: Must have high quality webcam and mic, internet with at least 10mb upload speeds, and a computer good enough to stream 1080p consistently. Please send us your specs in your application!

Scope: Will be required to broadcast 2-4 matches each week, additional research and preparation for each broadcast also required

Additional qualifications: Competitive playing experience is a plus.

Compensation: Paid contract position.

Specific Positions available: CS:GO, Dota, League of Legends, StarCraft, Fortnite, Rocket League


Show Host

Duties: Work with Content Manager and Production Manager to plan and execute video content pieces/shows for CSL.

Skills: On-camera hosting and interview abilities, able to write scripts for pre-recorded and live content, knowledge of camera and lighting setup

Gear Requirement: Must have your own video gear (camera, mic, tripod, lighting) 

Scope: 1-2 edited videos and/or live shows per week, possible travel to live events for live coverage 

Additional qualifications: Experience competing, managing, or being involved in the collegiate esports community; video editing skills a plus

Compensation: Paid contract position.


Smash Content Creator

Duties: Create informative and accessible written content that recaps the top moments from events and helps spread awareness of the league / future tournaments. Work closely with CSL Smash Directors to understand main developments surrounding the league, highlight key moments at events and why they matter. Also curate and obtain written submissions from relevant community members to create a steady flow of informative content

Scope: Scope: 2-3 postings per week

Additional qualifications: Experience competing, managing, or being involved in the collegiate esports or Smash community
