Your team ALWAYS has the right to take a walkover win - 30 minutes for match no-show and 10 minutes for player no-show. Although deaths in immediate family, car accidents, or natural disasters are regrettable and unforeseeable, the substitute rule exists for a reason. We expect teams to exercise their best sportsmanship when it comes to being flexible, but there have been standardized times for six weeks - teams who follow those rules will take priority over those who do not.
My formal apologies to Ryerson. I misinterpreted the situation entirely, and as a result probably inappropriately offended several players. Our condolences to Ryerson's player, who was not by any means lying about his situation.

to be fair, I don't think they were lying. There was a misconception about who had a dead grandfather and who couldn't play because he was in the library doing homework.
Nevertheless, I strongly recommend the 5th set in the series
In any case, I was told by Crescentia that we had to reschedule, which in the case of a dead relative would be understandable, but not so for schoolwork.
The thing is, some teams might not have enough players to substitute.
If you're now saying there was may have been a misconception, then maybe you should get your facts straight before complaining? You implied pretty heavily that it was the same player - if it was the same player, then Ryerson is bad for lying and has been penalized accordingly. If you're throwing around white lies in hopes of getting a score change, then you're just as bad as them. Don't say one thing and then soft dodge it later when it becomes a bigger deal.
While it's true that crescentia was mistaken in forcing the reschedule - I see nothing wrong with the fact that it was played. A lack of reschedule is usually only because the problem is unresolvable (lag issues), or neither player can meet at a mutually convenient time. To not reschedule simply because you would rather have the easy win by forfeit is bm, and while we allow it because this is a competitive league, we discourage it strongly.
As a division admin I consulted with Xeris to try and get this situation sorted out, under the assumption that Ryerson's player was away due to a legitimate family emergency - and also without asking if there were substitutes available. After the rescheduled match was played, the story began to unfold - I was told it was due to "work," not a death in the family; and soon after I discovered it was apparently due to schoolwork, not a job conflict as I had thought.
Some pretty bad communication going on there, and I acknowledge my part in it for not getting all of the facts on the situation before making a judgment.
We didn't know that this player wasn't the one with the family emergency until the game played out.
Don't accuse me of lying Mark, I didn't say anything that was untrue or otherwise skew what happened in our favor. Edit: Intentionally anyway, reading over the email again I can see how it would have been misinterpreted without having actually seen the conversation.
In any case, I never asserted that Ryerson's players had been lying.
And FYI, the reschedule is very inconvenient on our team. I was up for an hour dealing with it; personally I have an 8 am class on Mondays and it's midterms week. That's like saying rejecting a request to play the match at 2 am Tuesday morning against a weak team is bm because it's taking an easy win.
I usually have no problems with reschedules as long as they are given well ahead of time.
@Dayv,
Yeah, I reread your email and realized there were two completely different readings to it. Bad communication on all parts, shouldn't have happened but did.
This is all for good fun. In my opinion, its no fun beating a good school (like UCSD) by going...9:59...10! Yay win! xD
You get my point...haha.
Each division
Yeah... school's don't really seem to be following that, huh. zzz.
