Coding Bloopers: Observer out-spams players

The match reporting page on the site makes use of a library called pyreplib to parse replays for players. This library gets the job done, but has serious downsides when compared to the much more mature repasm. One of those downsides is that the library does not distinguish between players and observers - so we assume that the two players with the highest APMs are most likely to be the players we are looking for.

This is a pretty good assumption... normally :)

In set 2 of Ohio State University vs Univeristy of Illinois, OSU.Furnace and ywil[UIUC] are out-spammed by observer OSU)R(Majora, who finds it necessary to hold down Ctrl + 1 for long periods of time.

So whats the problem?

Unlike repasm and BWChart, pyreplib does not adjust for hot-key spam and clocks Majora in at 181 APM, well over both of the other players.

Ooops.

So, be kind and don't spam while observing :)

So the administrators use poor programming and then blame the users? For shame. :(

But this does deserve a lawlipop.

Also, there is no other way to handle this at the moment.

@Fibster, not blaming anyone, just pointing out something funny - a known bug with our system, and we're telling users how this can be avoided. We're asking that, in the future, observers don't spam so that the replays aren't messed up. no pointing fingers here.

Wait, APM seems like a very poor way to distinguish observers from players. Why don't you check for the two players with non-null unit or building lists? That's easy enough and guaranteed not to fail.
