Hello ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to our third season of the Collegiate StarLeague, in which 70 schools will be battling for honor, glory, honorable glory, glorified honor, and most of all, to be the best collegiate team in North America! In the following weeks to come, I'll be interviewing various schools during the season about their CSL experiences so far! If your CSL team wants in on this sweet interview action, send an email to cstarleague@gmail.com!
This week we've got the University of Victoria from West Division 3. UVic went undefeated in divisional play last season, trouncing Arizona State University in the R016 before getting defeated by UC Irvine 3-2 in the Ro8. UVic is also known for its' multitalented team...
One of UVic's many talents. Other talents include juggling fire, sword swallowing, and underwater basket weaving.

A lot of people in the CSL may know UVic from last season, having made it to the Ro8 in the playoffs and releasing some very hilarious videos in the process. Could you introduce your players (race/skill levels) and give us a little history about how the team was started?
Obviously everyone knows about baechigi, the best player in the CSL last year and obvious MVP of the league. Mona and the other writers are always commenting about his mysteriousness and that's true because he was told to keep a low profile. I think we'll keep it that way. We also have Mike Kim, who played ace for us during our last week in the regular season. He's a great person and an awesome player. He was quite busy last season though with real life and school but you'll definitely see him more active in the coming season. We got a bunch of new players this season and I'm really excited to watch them in action. One guy even played in the same clan as Nada!
CSL UVic started in the first season. I was an avid CholeraSC fan and loved hearing Mona dual will him. I signed up immediately after he advertised the CSL in one of his videos. Unlike now, where I've set up a real officially funded starcraft club at UVic, the first season was restricted to just my friends and I. We weren't a playoff team by far but our record wasn't all that bad (something like 3-2-1 I think). Now we have over a dozen members coming to meetings every Saturday and practicing for a roster spot in the CSL.
How would you describe your run last season? Any comments for UCI, who took you down in the Ro8?
Our perfect record in the CSL has definitely cemented us as a top school in our division this season. Was I surprised at such a big improvement? Well obviously, but as the season progressed, I saw that we were far better than in season one. When Duke and GT were both knocked out, I really believed that we would end up in the finals against the East. However, we lost in a huge upset to UCI before we could meet up against UCSD, which was the most over-hyped match up on team liquid: UCSD vs UVic. I was very very disappointed with our exit in the playoffs. Honestly, I blame myself for the entirety of the match loss. I underestimated UCI too much. I expected us to breeze through to the West finals. The week of the match against UCI, I had two lab exams and couldn't practice with my teammates. I didn't have time to discuss the build orders I wanted them to do or plan the games on each individual map. Geoff tried to do his best but he was overwhelmed with school as well and winning something like 7 ACE matches before was more than overachieving in my opinion.
How do you feel about this season, with different (and more) schools in your division? Any predictions for the playoffs?
Even though we are probably the favorites to take first place in our division, I am not going to underestimate any school again. Researching the new schools will be tough but I like the way our schedule works because UVic has a bye in the first round, which means, if Mona releases the replays in time, we will have an advantage going into week 2. I don't want to make a prediction in the playoffs because anything can happen. No one expected Waterloo to win.
How about some insight on the rap videos? Whose idea was it? How long did it take to make? Are you planning to do any more of them?
The rap videos were the brilliant inspirations of Josh Barnes aka UVic_Maphacks. It took about 5 hours to make but much longer to write I think. I'm not sure because he's the only that usually organizes these things. We're definitely going to make more in the future. We have one written already but it hasn't been released yet because it's not yet perfected.
Any final remarks?
Who says only Duke and GT have former pro-gamers in the CSL? ;)
And that's all! Again, if you want your team to be interviewed for the CSL, send an email to cstarleague@gmail.com and we'll fit you in somewhere!
