Whether you've been naughty and nice, CSL wants to know what YOU want for Christmas!
So we at the CSL have been brainstorming, coming up with new things to add to the site and all, but we figured, why not let you guys have a say? So right here, right now, in the comments section below, let us know what your Christmas list is! Whether it's something you'd like to see on the site (ie. forums) or some event that you'd like to see (ie. more KOTHs, weekly play-hazelynut-day kekeke), let us know! We're open to all ideas, and who knows, maybe one of yours will be selected.
Ye with brilliant of ideas will of course be given credit ;). Happy Holidays everyone!
P.S. Those of you who want to submit your suggestions privately, there's always the "Feedback" button at the bottom of the page!

I know I speak for some other division admins when I say we would looooove to be able to edit matches in other divisions. There are plenty of times when nobody in IRC can help people because we can't touch their division. I know I've told you guys this before, but I can't pass an opportunity to give my pitch again ;)
More match reports!
Make recommended replays public! Or at least show us what has been done with any of them if anything. Best reps of week n packs? Guest commentaries for best reps?
Probably just more media in general.
Fun showmatches are fun. A hot-seat showmatch would be awesome to play/watch (each player plays for few minutes on the same comp, then rotating out).
CSLbet.
@TGB: haha. Ask me next time you see on IRC about that...
@menace: we need more writers! XD. Too many flakes ;p. I think our writers use the rec reps, but I suppose we could do commentaries/release "best reps" packs.
And yeah, we're looking to produce more media, the purpose of this post is partially to see what kind of media the community would want.
Hot seat might be kind of hard to enforce (thought honor system works too) on a league-wide basis.
CSLbet? hrmm... maybe next season lols. A little late to add imo ^^. Or maybe for playoffs actually.
Like I said somewhere before....
1. Start a Forums. Pleeeeeeeeease. It would be like a second teamliquid.net. So good for us to have discussions about everything possible, feedback, suggestions, you name it!
2. Add a Team Website: part for every team's team page. Dalhousie is getting a website over the break (under the dal.ca domain name, which is freaking AWESOME), so it would be awesomesauce for that to be added.
Yeah, giving each team at least some customizable area in their team page makes it easy to publicize team events and link back to the site at the same time!
bracket challenge for playoffs! :D
As for media, more vods/commentaries for sure. Been lacking there more than writeups.
Although giving customizable areas for each team on their team pages may require moderation. Gives more for the division admins to do I guess =P
Forums, and season stats for each player (Wins/losses/etc. in CSL matches).
Player stats is seconded!
Also, a "top 5" replays of the week or something would be cool, featuring ace matches and important victories, etc.
I hope for more statistics! Yay statistics! Who doesn't like statistics!?
Yeah what happened to the season stats anyways? We had them for previous seasons but they disappeared with the addition of the sc2ranks profiles on the site o.o
I was wondering the same thing actually (which is probably a bad thing!)
what about separate competition for people who are not in diamond/able to compete for the team? Like a platinum league, gold league and so forth. or would that just be too much to have going on?
more coverage on matches, specifically highlighting the successes of weaker teams. no one talks about it but it is a great deal of commitment for 0-6 teams to continue playing and playing when to them it can seem kind of pointless. Disregarding the joy of the game and the joy of being in this, no one enjoys continuing to lose. so when these 0-6 teams get their first win, let's cheer them up, lets do it big for them, make it a huge deal. big name schools get enough attention and will get even more in the playoffs. im afraid that the weaker teams will eventually stop coming back for csl. lets make this enjoyable for all - even for the not-so-competitive.
happy holidays everyone
I think a B-Team league wouldn't be a horrible idea; teams could have a separate roster (inactive) for the B-Team, and put restrictions on how often you can move people back and forth. My school is pretty small, so most of our players get time, but I'd imagine at some of the bigger schools some players would never have a chance to compete.
No chance of that happening unfortunately. It would be nice but utterly unrealistic for the time being.
Having customizable test boxes for team pages would be a great addition! It would also be nice to be able to edit in banners, website links, stream links, stream/event calendars, and team information. Not only would this give teams more identity, pride, and personalization, it would help draw in perspective players and allow teams to show off what they have been up to. Lots of teams have been working hard to expand e-Sports in the region; it would be nice to see what others have been up to and be able share successes/experience this way.
Thanks to CSL staff for seeking our feedback and for everything that you have done for us!
What a grinch!
To put in my two cents: it's something that we really want to do. Right now the a lot of the things we want to do are limited by how much coding yenta can do, and how many helpful hands we can get (imagine needing to get another set of 16 admins for a B league @_@).
It'll probably happen in future seasons, but for now CSL santas cannot put this in your stockings :(
SO much clever wordplay... @_@! And ya, we're quite limited in what we can do because we have 1 full time programmer who is building the site from scratch and he works for free, and 90% of the people who have volunteered to help are deadbeats (we're lucky to find 1 in 10 people who offers to help that is legitly good) .
But if you have patience, we'll get where we need to go :) bear with us!!!
some bm xeris, i offered to help so i better be that 1 in 10.
I did this a couple times last season via interviews, so you can be sure to see them there
perhaps there will be match reports as well
I've been thinking a lot about this, and a huge improvement for this website would be a VoD section, something similar to the GomTV. I know this would be a huge commitment as well as a lot of work, however there are some very primal reasons why this would not only pay off, but more than be worth it.
Currently the CStar league isn't extremely popular, when I ask around not many people know what it is, let alone come to the website. So how can we increase the CStar popularity? Lets take example from popular Starcraft websites.
TeamLiquid.net has a huge amount of resources (in text and forum information) which gives incentive for players to visit. GomTV also has a huge amount of resources (in video VoD format) for players to log in and watch casually.
Many of these websites have resources which are easily accessible. CStar league is not far off, but downloading replays is too much of a hassle for someone who may not even get a good game.
I've found myself to be more interested in CStar matches than pro matches, many times I prefer to watch players from other schools than the random and probably repetitive pro replays you find on youtube. This is what CStar has going for it - a unique pool of VoD content that cannot be matched by any other website.
The issue is, however, that to get to these replays you have to download a pack onto your computer, and move the replays to your starcraft folder which clutters a lot of space on your computer. VoD's are easy and simple.
GomTV has a unique pool of VoD's in that the prize is 87,000 dollars. CStar has a unique pool in that it has access to collegiate VoD's. And we all know how popular collegiate sports are.
Back to my original point, with the interaction of Videos on Demand on this website, it would create a resource which is so easy to access that it would give players who cannot or do not participate in the CStar a reason to visit the website, which means more traffic for you guys. This traffic can be used for sponsorships in companies like SteelSeries, LittleAppFactory, Intel, or more to your choosing. More importantly this traffic will increase the popularity of CStar immensely.
Interest has already been shown, but we need to give people a reason to care about collegiate Starcraft. VoD's can single handedly do this. More traffic will bring CStar to the forefront of eSports and give it the real recognition it deserves.
This would be a step to make CStarLeague one of the dominant Starcraft communities.
I think VODs should be doable, and the first step is that we would need to streamline our casting and recording. With the number of games that are currently going on though it would be impossible to do record them all. An embedded youtube player might be good for hosting this for now, though obviously we'll need more coding on the website for a decent interface. Recording a large number of playoff games might be doable, though.
The other issue is that if we do decide to host VODs we need to think about webspace if we're going to be making them available for download. For the most part I think reps would be adequate but things like Grand Finals and Ro4/8/etc. might get a little more production value if we can get it figured out by spring, and so if people were interested in grabbing those there might be a money issue involved.
Vod/Stream module has been coded for quite some time, just no interface work has been done to support it. It has become a priority.
And Duran is being to nice when he says I'm full time - If anything I'm part time :P
We can cast the recommended videos each week from the teams. It wouldn't be every single game, that would be ridiculous, but it would be the ones submitted. This seems like a reasonable amount.
we wanna get advertised for the CMSL tournament! XD
I think it could be a nice idea for future seasons to have a last chance qualifier for playoffs to give teams a reason to keep practicing hard. I was thinking some kind of massive 1 day meat grinder tournament with some small number of teams qualifying.
Though I realize the effort/time needed to run such an event could make it prohibitively difficult to run. I would still love to see a second way to qualify for post-season play just to keeps teams playoff dreams alive.
how about a 2v2 KOTH =D
