Part I: Coordinator’s Section
I’m going to address some common problems here, just for the good of the general public. First and foremost, lineups:
The “how to” can be found here. I’m going to talk about valid and invalid lineups.
When you’re submitting your lineup for a match, you might notice a big box above the selection menu. It outlines the rules and guidelines for lineups. Let’s go through them.
The 4 players used in the first 3 sets must be unique.
The first 3 sets need to have 4 DIFFERENT players. The first 3 sets are a 1v1, another 1v1, and a 2v2. In total, it takes (1+1+2=) 4 players to successfully cover those sets. What we mean by unique is that, the players are different people. Different players. Not the same. Here is an example of an acceptable lineup (for the first three sets).
Set 1: yenta
Set 2: Xeris
Set 3: hazelynut and DarthThienAn
Here is an example of an unacceptable lineup:
Set 1: yenta
Set 2: DarthThienAn
Set 3: hazelynut and DarthThienAn
As you can see, in the latter example, I would be playing twice in the first 3 sets. There would also only be THREE unique players in the first 3 sets. This is unacceptable. The first 3 sets must have 4 unique players.
A player can play at most twice in one match: one 1v1 and one 2v2, one 1v1 and ace, or one 2v2 and ace.
This rule is mostly self-explanatory. Any given player can only play twice, and only in the specified combinations. The important thing to note here is that this rule is supplementary to the previous rule that I just explained. That said, a player can play twice in a match by playing any of the following:
Set 1 and Set 5
Set 2 and Set 5
Set 3 and Set 4 (then player ineligible for Set 5)
Set 3 and Set 5
Set 4 and Set 5
Other than these combinations, players are not allowed to play more than once in any match.
Double racing is NOT allowed in 2v2.
This one is pretty self-explanatory as well. Basically, PP, ZZ, and TT are not allowed to be your race combinations in Set 3. Note that any combination with Random, including RR, is allowed, even if you end up with a double race at match time.
Ace player submission becomes available in the case of a tie.
You might have noticed that you were unable to submit a player for Set 5 at this time. Well, let’s step back for a minute, and answer this question - What exactly is an Ace match?
The name itself comes from the Starcraft: Broodwar Proleague in Korea. The Ace match is, for all practical purposes, a tiebreak. The only time when an Ace match is needed (and will be available) is when the first four sets did not decide a clear winner – so the score is 2-2 at this point. Since this is a Best of 5, then in that case, you would move on to the fifth set, as neither team has reached 3 wins.
That said, the selection of the Ace player will become available if and only if the first four sets’ results have been submitted already. Either team can fill this out, but all four sets need to be submitted (replays required!).
Once you submit your Ace player, your choice cannot be changed.
Well, this part has been reworded for better comprehension. It is thus, much more straightforward, no? You are not allowed to change your decision for the Ace match player once you click submit.
Any errors with your submission will be displayed above.
Great feature isn’t it? Thank our gosu webmaster for all this.
Examples of Valid Lineups
Assume each letter is a different player. Parentheses will be the 2v2, and brackets will signify a choice.
Ordering is Set 1, Set 2, Set 3, Set 4, Set 5
AB(CD)EF
AB(CD)E[A, B, C, D, E]
AB(CD)[A, B, C, D][A, B, C, D but not the same one as from Set 4]
Late Lineups
Lineups are due each week at 11:59pm PDT on Tuesdays. They will be locked after that, but the lineups for a match will not be shown unless both players have submitted a lineup.
If you failed to submit your lineup on time, the very first time you will get a 1-day warning. From then on, every 24 hours will result in a set loss, starting with the Ace match, and then going to Set 1, 2, etc. After 3 days, of course, your team will have lost automatically. If you are late and wish to submit a lineup, you will have to send it to cstarleague@gmail.com. From there, we will put it in directly.
Part II: The Changeling, er Changelog
Allow me to direct you to here. Have you ever seen this before? The link’s at the bottom of the site.
I’m only going to address some major changes in the latest patch that will affect the average user.
The biggest update can be found on the match page. Go to your current match. A couple bugs were fixed (player links now work), but more important, there is now a “Match chat”. Sign in, and you’ll automatically be directed to your match’s channel, as well as the central #cstarleague channel. Feel free to use this quakenet as you wish – idle in it, chat in it, whatever you like! These were mainly implemented to act in place of B.net chat channels, but if you can find other uses for them, then don’t hold back.
You might notice the “Report Game” tab on the Match page as well. To report a game (and by report a game, we mean report the results of a set), upload the replay. The SC2 replay parser will detect the players involved, and match it with the correct set. If this fails, then either you’re submitting a bad replay, or the players’ profiles have something wrong with them. If this ever happens, feel free to send an email to cstarleague@gmail.com describing the situation – be as thorough as possible in your explanation.
Assuming nothing goes wrong though, upload the replay, and choose the winner of that set. The score of the match will update automatically based on this.
Part III: Looking into the CSL Staff
There are 4 main admins at the Collegiate Starleague. Some very brief introductions:
hazelynut - the founder of the CSL (and CSL+ for those of you who remember it), she basically sits around looking pretty these days. She's currently a junior at Princeton University.
Xeris - coach for FnaticMSI, and a UCSD alum. He doesn't really have a life besides Starcraft.
DarthThienAn - all-purpose monkey for the CSL. He's a sophomore at Princeton University.
yenta - the extremely under-appreciated webmaster, lord of all code, etc. etc. He graduated from RPI, as well as some random Polish school that no one cares about. ^^
If you ever have any any questions, feel free to shoot us an email at cstarleague@gmail.com. We all check it pretty frequently, so if your email doesn't get answered within 48 hours, then you should probably send us a friendly reminder about it. Other than that, you can submit feedback about the site at http://www.cstarleague.com/feedback.
Part IV: Playing Matches
By Wednesday morning, the match lineups should be visible for both sides. Let your team know their matchups, etc. If the division's default time doesn't work for you, you should try to email the other coordinator as soon as possible, especially before lineups are due. Talk to each other, and figure out a mutually good time if possible. Every coordinator's email can be found on their team's page.
When match time comes around, the best thing you could probably do is meet up in the new IRC channels (accessible from the match page). Not only can you find your opponents there, you should also be able to find CSL admins on at all times. Some might be afk, but if it's one of the default match times, there's a good chance that at least a couple with be on. CSL admins with have a "CSL|" tag before their names, like "CSL|DarthThienAn". Feel free to ask them any questions that you have - if they don't know the answer, then they can easily relay the questions to the head admins. From the IRC channel, you can set up games and all that - be sure to add each other (if not real ID, then character code).
to be continued...

Thanks a ton for all your work on the CSL.
I noticed the link for the "Changelog" is broken, where it says "Allow me to direct you here".
Thanks for pointing that out, fixed ^^
Still not fixed for me =(
hazelynut is female? wut?!!! xD
sooo, anyone remember how all this was done in Season 1 and 2? Yeah, through email. a lot. of fucking. email.
My issue with this is that there is no good way of contacting your opponent. being as they aren't always on IRC. Is there anyway coordinators can see the emails of other coordinators? We just want to talk to them so we could set up a time that may be better for us OTHER than default time.
@kool Did you perhaps, no no, per chance ever look at the other team's profile page? Up at the top under Coordinator? Maybe? Take a gander there?
This actually wasn't obvious at all unless I knew English.
Can you elaborate a bit more on the matches? Do they have to be played in order? Do they have to be played consecutively or simultaneously? Can one of the sets be played at a different time, ie my player for the first match can't make it at the default time? Are spectators allowed?
www.cstarleague.com/rules explains most of these:
Although CSL prefers games to be played sequentially, note that it is possible to play all five sets simultaneously if both teams agree. However, match results will be computed as in the sets were played in order.
Teams are considered no-shows 30 minutes after the proposed time, and are given an automatic match loss. This counts as a forfeit loss.
Players are considered no-shows 10 minutes after the preceding set ends and are given an automatic set loss. This counts as a forfeit loss.
If your player can't make it, this is something you should negotiate with the coordinator and get the okay on.
Only players, commentators, and one observer per team are allowed in game. If both players agree, more observers may join the game. Observers unaffiliated with CSL staff (team members) can be asked to leave at the players’ discretion, or can be denied entry before the game starts. Failure to adhere to a request to leave the game will result in an automatic set-loss for that players’ team.
We had an issue today uploading the replays from our match. It says players not in set list, though we have verified it was the correct replay and the players were correct. Heard in the IRC channel that others have had the same issue. just as an fyi, dont know what to do from here.
Was it 2v2 by any chance? We're looking into this, hold onto the replay.
Yea, just send your replays directly to cstarleague@gmail.com for now. We'll fix it tonight hopefully.
