TwitchTV to be CSL’s Title Sponsor

Today, we are very proud to announce that TwitchTV will be the new title sponsor of the Collegiate Starleague.

In Spring 2011, JustinTV sponsored CSL Season 4 - our biggest season yet with over 144 colleges and universities across North America. Now as JustinTV's dedicated gaming broadcast platform, TwitchTV is reaffirming its commitment to developing collegiate eSports in North America by sponsoring CSL for yet another exciting season.

From our humble beginnings in Spring 2009 with just 25 schools participating, to today, with over 260 schools slated to compete in our 5th season, the Collegiate Starleague has always strived to share our passion with the community and bring eSports to a more mainstream audience. With the support of TwitchTV, we hope to realize our shared vision of showcasing the best of the collegiate scene and bringing eSports to collegiate campuses everywhere.

“This is really a testament to the growing momentum of eSports in North America," said CSL Head Administrators Mona Zhang and Duran Parsi. "We had a shared vision of nation-wide (and even continent-wide) collegiate StarCraft two and a half years ago, and thanks to TwitchTV we are one giant step closer to making that happen. We couldn’t be happier for our community right now!”

“We’re proud to sponsor CSL this year,” said Kevin Lin, COO of JustinTV and VP of business development for TwitchTV. “It’s a great program featuring young passionate gamers and amazing gameplay from college campuses across the country. It’s a great community that we’re happy to be associated with.”

What does it all mean…

Today, we would like to officially announce the season format: Nine weeks of geographical rivalries, nine weeks of interdivisional warfare, and a MASSIVE 128-team playoff bracket with wildcard seeding from...

TWO LAN EVENTS.

Join us in mid-November in Maryland and February in Texas for playoff qualifications, contests, prizes, food, free t-shirts, all to be hosted in YOUR lecture halls, student unions and ballrooms.

Without TwitchTV’s’s support, these events would not be possible.

The CSL is headed out of the screen and directly onto campuses! We will be hosting several LAN events this season!

What’s new in Season 5

In addition to incorporating regional LAN events into our season and expanding our format to include over 280 schools, we have other exciting things in the works!

Our website will have new features that will allow teams to organize and create their own matches – so teams who miss out on the start of the season can still play in side tournaments we will host throughout the year along with having their own exhibition matches. We hope to foster more interaction and help build our community even more.

We also will be creating a high school league, with the hopes of fostering the growth of players of all ages, and creating a feeder for players to jump right into the CSL after graduation! Along with our head sponsor, Twitch.tv, we believe that rewarding gamers for continuing and prioritizing their education is the way to go.

Stay tuned for even more announcements in the coming months, and we look forward to an amazing Season 5 thanks to our head sponsor, TwitchTV!
